Series 5 Episode 3 - I'd Rather Be Alone

8.21AM
Rik
: What are you doing up so early?
Lexi: Couldn't sleep, thought my time would be better spent doing the many errands I need to do today than lying in bed awake.
Rik: Alright. What are you doing cooking berry pie though?
Lexi: Because I'm trying to make it better.
Rik: Is there something wrong with it?
Lexi: Just when I think Andrea has done enough insulting by calling the food I made at the dinner party two weeks ago 'tasteless', she said at last weeks wedding party that her berry pie was better than mine.
Rik: And how is that a problem exactly?
Lexi: As I have said before, I will not let that woman walk into Riverside and walk over everybody else. She might have Steve in the palm of her hand but she doesn't have anybody else.
Rik: I really don't see what all the fuss is about though.
Lexi: Because when we have dinner parties and get togethers with the neighbours everybody comes here, I'm always the hostess, I'm always the one who cooks the food.
Rik: I remember a time when the most you used to worry about in a week was what you were wearing for a night out.
Lexi: Well things change. I don't want Andrea to be the new hostess of all the parties on the street.
Rik: I still don't see the problem. If she's the better cook and she's happy to do it then she should be making the food.

10.32AM

Kate: So what do you think of our new neighbours?
Lou: They seem nice.
Kate: Yes they do, which makes last weeks outburst from that journalist even more of a mystery.
Lou: The woman was drunk, we don't know that what she was saying was true.
Kate: Well one thing's for sure, something's definitely not right.
Lexi: Lauren says she knows  Julian and Rachel.
Lou: What? Since when?
Lauren: I don't know them.
Lexi: Last week, after the wedding party, Lauren explicitly said she knew them from somewhere.
Lauren: Yes, but I can't place them. I just recognise their faces.
Kate: Well that's not hard to do, she's a model after all.
Lauren: No, I'm sure there's more to it. I just can't remember what.

Rachel: Well, good morning ladies.
Lexi: Rachel, hi. We, erm, didn't see you there.
Rachel: So, who you all gossiping about today?
Lou: Erm... nobody.
Rachel: Oh sure you are, I just heard you.
Lexi: We were just saying how nice it is to have you as our neighbours.
Rachel: Well that was kind of you all, thank you. I'm just passing though and wanted to say hi. I'm on my way to the store. See you all later.
All: Bye.
Kate: I have to go too, I have a job interview to get to.
Lauren: I didn't know you were looking for a job.
Kate: Yeah, it was a bit of a last minute decision. Anyway I must go, don't want to be late.
Lexi: See you both later then.
Lauren: And good luck Kate.

10.58AM
Tom
: Oh, but come on sir, please?!
Phil: You're fired! Now get out of my building.
Tom: But, but, but I bring a lot to this job every day.
Phil: The only thing you've brought to this job every day is your car! Now get the hell out of my office!

Kate: Whoa, and I thought I had some anger management issues.
Kirsty: Don't stress yourself out. Mr Duncan's usually a lot calmer.
Kate: Well I sure hope he is when he's interviewing me.
Kirsty: I'm sure he - and you - will be fine. If you'd please take a seat along with the other job candidates. They're in the room down the hall.
Kate: Okay, thanks.

Phil: So you've been out of work for over a year?
Kate: I needed to take some time out.
Phil: Yes I see, says you were in hiding as part of the Witness Protection Scheme. What did you witness?
Kate: Somebody tried to kill me.
Phil: And you survived. I like that, a survivor that is. Now what about your last job, it says you quit.
Kate: I didn't feel like I was going anywhere in the business.
Phil: It also says here that somebody filed for a restraining order against you.
Kate: That would be the woman that tried to kill me.
Phil: Ah, I see. I just need to know I'm not going to be hiring a psycho.
Kate: "Hiring"?
Phil: Yes, you can have the job.
Kate: Really? Just like that?
Phil: I just glanced at your CV and immediately saw you were far more qualified than all the others and from what I've seen so far, I like you.
Kate: Thanks.
Phil: I don't want to waste the rest of my day interviewing the rest of the jerks out there. I have somewhere better I could be. When can you start?
Kate: Straight away, I guess.
Phil: Good, I'll see you bright and early tomorrow in my office at 9am, no later.
Kate: Good, I'll see you then.
Phil: But the first task you have to do for me is now.
Kate: Sure, anything.
Phil: On your way out send the other job candidates out in the hall home.
Kate: Sure.

Natalia: You don't wanna know of some of the crap that's gone down in 'ere.
Kerry: Don't worry, I'm fine not knowing.
Natalia: Oh but one day it's gonna hit you and it's gonna hit you bloody 'ard.
Kerry: I said I'm fine.
Natalia: You won't last two flamin' minutes in this joint. What is you did anyways?
Kerry: Tried to kill two people.
Natalia: Tried? That means you failed. What was yer weapon?
Kerry: A gun.
Natalia: You had a gun and you still couldn't kill? Jesus, you definitely won't last long here. When's your court case?
Kerry: It starts tomorrow.
Natalia: Well you'd better hope it goes bloody well for you.
Kerry: How long are you in prison for?
Natalia: I'm in me third year o' fourteen.
Kerry: And what did you do?
Natalia: I killed three people, scum of the bleedin' earth, they all deserved it.
Kerry: What did they do?
Natalia: My boyfriend was one o' 'em. He was havin' it off behind me back with a blonde bint so I shot the both of 'em.
Kerry: And the third?
Natalia: A police officer, the one who first tried to arrest me.

Reporter: Joanna Richards has now been missing for over 200 days - she was last seen on 10th August 2007. The search continues. Anybody with any information is urged to contact...

Julian: You know, you shouldn't worry.
Rachel: But I do! What if she gets traced back to us?
Julian: She won't be.
Rachel: How can you say that? Especially with that crazy bitch Elsa Kay running around accusing you of killing her.
Julian: It doesn't matter, we know that's not true.
Rachel: But the police might not think that!
Julian: The police interviewed us both and they believe our story, they even threw Elsa's accusations out of the window.
Rachel: I'm just afraid the truth might come out. Things would get really ugly.
Julian: Don't worry, I won't let that happen.

11.34PM

Lou: Kate? Is that you?

Kate: You're awake?
Lou: Yeah, I guess we just feel asleep in front of the TV again.
Kate: Oh, right. Well I'm just going to head to bed, long day and all that.
Lou: Hey, how'd the job interview go?
Kate: Great, I got it.
Lou: Well done!

12.28AM

Upstairs from the nightclub
Lisa
: What's that you've got?
Phil: Crack. You want some?
Lisa: Oh, I've been off the drugs a long time. I'm not sure.
Phil: It can't hurt, can it?
Lisa: I'm really not sure.
Phil: C'mon, have some fun.
Lisa: Am I that bad that you need to be off your head on drugs when we're together?
Phil: If you were that bad I'd just get another whore up here.
Lisa: So then, why the drugs? You've never done them before, at least not with me
Phil: I just had a long day, filled with job interviews and firing lousy employees.
Lisa: Let me make you feel better then.
Phil: Just a second, I just want to get this last line down me.

6.38AM
Rachel: You off to work? It's a bit early.
Julian: I have a lot going on.
Rachel: Well don't work yourself too hard.
Julian: So what are you planning on doing now you have an extra load of free time.
Rachel: Oh I don't know, I'm sure I'll find something... or somebody.
Julian: Excuse me?
Rachel: I'm kidding, I love you and I'll see you later.

Lauren: Kate, hi.
Kate: Hi Lauren.
Lauren: So, what's up?
Kate: I'm just about to head off to court, Kerry's trial starts today.
Lauren: Oh, that. I'm due to appear next week sometime.
Kate: I just want to ask you a few things.
Lauren: Sure, go ahead.
Kate: Kerry was your best friend, where do you stand with her now?
Lauren: A lot of stuff happened, a lot of stuff I've forgotten and can't remember.
Kate: Do you hate her though? Do you want her to suffer for what she did?
Lauren: I don't know how I feel about her but I understand why she did what she did.
Kate: Jeez, I hope one day I can be half as understanding as you are.
Lauren: What will you at the hearing today?
Kate: I'm not sure, I'll just wait and see what kind of questions they ask.
Lauren: The last time you saw her... was that the night she shot us both?
Kate: No, the last time I saw Kerry was when she locked me in a basement of a hotel and left me for dead.
Lauren: When did that happen?
Kate: New Years Eve 2006. You were still in a coma at the time.
Lauren: And weren't you supposed to be in hiding?
Kate: I'm not one for hiding myself away for long. Anyway, when did you last see Kerry?
Lauren: The night I walked into the pub and got shot. Honestly though, that night is a blur to me.
Kate: So next week will be the first time both of you have seen each other in over a year?
Lauren: Yeah. And I really want to get some answers from her - like why she tried to kill me when I was in a coma and how she managed to fail.

Kerry: Thank you for providing the money for a lawyer.
Phyllis: Just doing what I can.
Kerry: I really appreciate it.
Phyllis: Are you ready for today?
Kerry: Why are you being so nice all of a sudden? Providing all my needs?
Phyllis: You're my daughter.
Kerry: That's it? There's no ultimate motive?
Phyllis: Like what?
Kerry: Like getting back into the police force?
Phyllis: Never going to happen, I've more or less been blacklisted.
Kerry: You sure?
Phyllis: Sure, you're my daughter, you're all I've got left in the world.
Kerry: Well, as quiet and unsupportive as he is, we still have dad too.
Phyllis: (Cries)
Kerry: Mum?
Phyllis: I just really don't want you to spend the rest of your life in prison.

Lisa: Oh, hello.
Lou: Hi Lisa.
Rachel: We were just about to grab a cup of coffee, want to join us?
Lisa: No thanks, but I did want a word.
Rachel: Sure.
Lisa: Lauren's been back to Riverside for two weeks now and we haven't given her a proper welcome.
Lou: You're right, we've been so busy since with Steve and Andrea's wedding.
Lisa: So how about a welcome home party for her tonight.
Lou: Sure, I can host. We can play poker, and Ben just got a brand new snooker table. I can give Lexi a call and get her to cook
Lisa: I was thinking I could host it.
Lou: Really? But you're not even a close friend of Lauren's.
Lisa: Says the woman who nearly killed her over ten years ago when she smashed a glass bottle over her head.
Lou: Over ten years ago, yes. And I was drunk, young and violent - three things I no longer am.
Lisa: Well, whatever. I just wanted to be included for once. It appears I'm no longer a member of the gossip brigade!

Lawyer: So, Miss Thomas, explain to us what happened on the night Kerry shot at you.
Kate: I was talking to Kerry and Dave in the Riverside pub.
Lawyer: You say talking but it's claimed you actually entered the pub after hours with the intention of confronting Kerry and Dave with a gun.
Kate: Well, yes, partly. It was over something really silly - I had been having an affair with Dave and I wanted him to admit it to his fiancé, Kerry.
Lawyer: So you admit you used the gun?
Kate: I didn't use it, I just had it pointed at them.
Lawyer: Of course, but neither Dave nor Kerry were to know that weren't planning on using it. Continue.
Kate: Anyway Kerry attacked me, I dropped the gun, Dave picked it up and he handed it to her. She then tried to shoot at me, missed and hit Lauren. She shot again and hit me.
Lawyer: Did you do or say anything to provoke Kerry into pulling the trigger?
Kate: I may have said something to her.
Lawyer: You either did or didn't, there's no in between.
Kate: Okay, yes, I remember saying to her that I wish I had shot her whilst I had the chance.
Lawyer: So you admit you entered the pub that night with murder in mind?
Kate: I know you're trying to defend Kerry but I'm not the one on trial, I'm just giving evidence.
Lawyer: Yes, but you can see how Kerry was provoked.
Kate: Yes, I can. I probably would've done the same in her situation.
Lawyer: Thank you. Your honour, I have no further questions.

Rik: Are you feeling any better this afternoon?
Lexi: And what if I'm not feeling better?
Rik: Sorry I asked. Is Lacey upstairs, I'll go and see if she's alright instead.
Lexi: No, Rik, what if I'm not feeling better?
Rik: Then take time out, sleep off whatever you're feeling. Is it that big a problem?
Lexi: YES!
Rik: Then explain it to me, your husband who has no idea how you're feeling.
Lexi: You just don't appreciate the amount of effort I put into everything.
Rik: If that's what you got from my remark this morning then it's not what I meant.
Lexi: Admit it though, it is! You want me to cook perfectly every time, look my best at all times, handle all the decisions of our life - yet you never appreciate what I do.
Rik: Whoa... I never said that this morning.
Lexi: I just got a phone call from Lou, she wants me to make a buffet for ten people tonight. And I have to look after Lacey, not to mention you, Lauren and dad too. I have to do all that and then when I step out that door I have to look my best. And if we ever have guests around, which is almost every day, this house looks spotlessly clean - because of me!
Rik: I don't know what's brought this on, Lex.
Lexi: And what happens if none of that stuff happens? "Oh, she doesn't look as good as that model down the street, Rachel" or "Oh, her house isn't as clean as Andrea's" or "Oh, she doesn't cook as good as her sister in law Lauren"
Rik: I don't think those things - ever.
Lexi: You do sometimes, and the same applies to everybody else on the street.
Rik: I had no idea you felt that way.
Lexi: Well I do. And it's true.
Rik: Listen, go and have a long bath and get yourself ready for whatever it is that's happening tonight. Another poker night with the girls?
Lexi: No, Lauren's welcome home party. I have to cook for it.
Rik: Don't worry, go and take a long bath. I'll call Lou and tell her I'll cook instead.
Lexi: Don't! Your cooking isn't as good as I sometimes say it is.
Rik: Well then I'll tell Lou to order a pizza takeaway or a Chinese.
Lexi: Good, then you can join me in the bath.

Elsa: Hello. Are you the one who called me?
Lauren: Yes. You must be Elsa then?
Elsa: Yes. What do you want?
Lauren: I was at the wedding party you crashed last week.
Elsa: Oh, that. I suppose you want to know more information then?

Elsa: You have a nice home.
Lauren: Thanks, it was redecorated not long ago.
Elsa: Lets cut to the chase. What do you want to know?
Lauren: What is you have against Julian and Rachel?
Elsa: Julian killed Joanna Richards, Rachel is sticking up for him. What else is there you need to know, it's quite simple to understand.
Lauren: I mean what is there to prove it. They're now living in the same street as me, I'm also pretty sure I know them somehow.
Elsa: You want to know all the gory details?
Lauren: Throw them at me.
Elsa: Joanna Richards was one of my best friends. She disappeared just over 200 days ago. The last proven sighting of her was at High Grove Modelling Agency in London, she was caught on CCTV leaving the building.
Lauren: You've seen her since then?
Elsa: Yes, after her last recorded appearance on CCTV I saw her get into a car with Julian - that happened 24 hours after her last ever CCTV appearance. The police have ignored my statement, they believe I saw somebody else with Julian, not Joanna.
Lauren: When was Joanna officially recorded as a missing person?
Elsa: 48 hours after her last recorded appearance, 24 hours after I saw her with Julian. She missed a modelling shoot, very unlike Joanna.

Lauren: But the police must have listened to your statement, they can't ignore you.
Elsa: They did listen to me originally.
Lauren: What happened?
Elsa: The police searched Julian's home, they found nothing.
Lauren: So he wasn't a suspect or anything?
Elsa: No, there was no evidence.
Lauren: So you have no real concrete evidence that Julian killed Joanna.
Elsa: The police found Joanna's fingerprints on Julian's car.
Lauren: So why wasn't Julian made a suspect?
Elsa: It wasn't strong enough evidence. Because Rachel and Joanna knew each other they didn't think it would ever be unordinary had she ever been in Julian's car.
Lauren: I know how you must be feeling but maybe Julian didn't kill Joanna. You could have mistaken Joanna for somebody else when you thought you saw her with Julian. Maybe you just want to believe what you think is true.
Elsa: GOD DAMMIT! Why can't people see that Julian Stone is a murdering son of a bitch?
Lauren: I think I should go.
Elsa: Oh sure, you go. Just don't go crying to me when one of your neighbours goes missing like Joanna did.

Phyllis: Kerry's trial started today. It went well for her, I think. I still haven't told her what happened to you... but I want to, I really do. I just don't think now's the right time.

December 2007
11.21PM

Seth: So when does your treatment start at the hospital?
Phyllis: Treatment?
Seth: Yes, for your tumour.
Phyllis: I thought we discussed this before, I'm not going to fight it.
Seth: Don't be ridiculous.
Phyllis: I'm not. All my life I've been in battle - with Kerry, work, criminals. I want to retire. I don't want to fight anymore, especially when I might not even win.
Seth: So you're just going to give up like that?
Phyllis: I'm not giving up.
Seth: You are, you're setting yourself a death date.
Phyllis: I am not, I just don't want to fight anymore. I don't even know if I have the strength to fight this.
Seth: I know you don't like losing battles but this is a life or death situation.
Phyllis: What do you mean I don't like losing battles?
Seth: I understand, you see this tumour as another battle. You've never lost a fight in your life and I know you don't want to start now but if you don't get treatment you'll die.
Phyllis: We're all going to die eventually.
Seth: Don't give me the 'we're all going to die' line. What you're saying is that you don't care when you die.
Phyllis: Well maybe I don't.
Seth: That's quite selfish you know.
Phyllis: You knew I was selfish when you married me, you should be used to it by now.
Seth: So, you're happy to die and let me live, let me pick up the pieces after your death.
Phyllis: This isn't what I want.
Seth: No, but you have a choice. You know for the past forty years my worst fear, the thing I would die to prevent happening, is your death. If you choose to go down this path you are condemning me to live the rest of my life grieving.
Phyllis: I'm not discussing this further, I'm going to bed.
Seth: Phyllis, for 67 years of my entire life I've been a pushover. I'm taking a stand - I am not going to let you die on me, we're going to the hospital first thing in the morning.

Phyllis: Goodnight, Seth.

7.01AM
Seth: What... what happened?
Phyllis: Lie back down, Seth. You're not well. The doctor's are doing the most they can.
Seth: What's wrong? The last thing I remember was standing in the kitchen.
Phyllis: The doctor's think you may have had a heart attack last night, that was when you collapsed in the kitchen.
Seth: When did I get to the hospital?
Phyllis: Last night. I heard something fall in the kitchen, a pan. You must have knocked over it over when you fell. I went downstairs and found you motionless on the floor.
Seth: Am I likely to make a full recovery?
Phyllis: As I said, the doctors are doing all they can.
Seth: Well, at least I got my way in the end.
Phyllis: What's that?
Seth: I said we'd be at the hospital first thing in the morning and here we are.
Phyllis: (Laughs) The first time in our marriage you decide to stand up for yourself and you give yourself a heart attack!
Seth: (Laughs)
Phyllis: I'm going to go home, get you a change of clothes, pack together your toiletries, get you some food and I'll be right back.
Seth: Thanks. And Phyllis, I'm sorry for last night.
Phyllis: That's alright, as long as you're okay.

10.21AM

(Phone rings)

Phyllis: Hello?
Doctor: Hi, Phyllis, this is doctor Morgan from Riverside Hospital.
Phyllis: Oh, hi Morgan. Does Seth want me to take anything else to the hospital for him? You can tell him I'm making some ham and mustard sandwiches - they're his favourite!
Doctor: I'm afraid I have some bad news. You might want to sit down.
Phyllis: Oh... alright.
Doctor: Seth passed away just a few moments ago.
Phyllis: But the doctor's... they said this morning he was stabilised.
Doctor: I know, but Seth had a relapse. Everyone here did everything they could.
Phyllis: Of course. Thanks for letting me know.

Phyllis: Ham and mustard... your favourite.

Phyllis: That was the most I have ever cried in my entire life. You made me realise how selfish I was. It would have been so wrong to refuse treatment and die in front of you while you may still have lived on for so long. That morning in the hospital after your first heart attack... it made me understand how you felt about me dying. I've started treatment, I undergo an operation within the next few weeks. I'll have to tell Kerry about the tumour and about your death soon. I won't have the strength to attend her court hearings anymore so she has to know. I'm doing this for you... for Kerry - because nobody should ever go through the pain of having a loved one die.

Lou: So how'd the hearing go?
Kate: It went well.
Lou: For who though? Kerry?
Kate: I think so, I wasn't too hard on her.
Lou: Did you see her?
Kate: Yes, but she didn't look at me. She just looked at the floor the whole time I was in the witness box.
Lou: Well, changing the topic entirely, I noticed a 'For Sale' sign went up on the house next door.
Kate: Isn't that where Seth and Phyllis used to live?
Lou: I think so, but Phyllis hasn't lived in that house since Seth passed away.
Kate: I think I might make an offer for the house.
Lou: Really? You want to move out?
Kate: I just want to get my independence back. I've got a job, a house would be a nice to accompany it.
Lou: Really?
Kate: Sometimes I'd rather be alone - no offence. Plus I can't exactly live here forever.

6.48PM
Lauren
: It was so nice of you to throw a party.
Lou: It was Lisa's idea actually.
Lauren: Where is she by the way?
Lou: No idea, Paul's here though.

Rik: So, can we expect a visit from crazy Elsa tonight?
Julian: I hope not. Rachel and I haven't seen her since the wedding party, we're hoping she's back in London.

Lauren: So I wanted to get you three alone.
Lexi: What's up?
Lauren: I spoke to Elsa today. I invited her to my house,
Lou: So, what did she say?
Lauren: She's convinced Julian killed Joanna. She has no concrete evidence but I see no reason as to why she would lie.
Lou: Maybe she just wants to believe somebody killed her.
Lauren: I don't know, but it didn't sound like she was unsure.
Lou: Have you managed to figure out where you recognise them from?
Lauren: No, I still can't place them.
Kate: Maybe we should get Rachel and Julian drunk, get them to spill their secrets.
Lou: You think that's a good idea?
Kate: They're our neighbours. If it's true Julian's a killer and Rachel's an accomplice then we need to know.
Lexi: We might dig up some awfully dirty secrets.
Kate: Better that than waking up tomorrow to find one of our neighbours, maybe even one of us, missing.
Lou: She's right.
Lauren: I'll go and get some more wine.

Steve: So are we okay again?
Lauren: Huh?
Steve: You said last week you wanted some time apart. I wasn't sure if I should come tonight but I didn't want to cause a scene.
Lauren: Oh, yeah, sure. I haven't even thought of you recently.
Steve: Oh.
Lauren: Sorry, I didn't mean for that to sound as harsh as it did. I just mean I haven't...
Steve: I understand. And I'm sorry for whatever I said last week. I should never have said I had feelings for you.
Lauren: You didn't say that, you said you nearly had feelings for me.
Steve: Well whatever I said I apologise for it. Things have moved on since the old days.
Lauren: Yeah, they certainly have. Now excuse me, I've got to get a bottle of wine for Rachel.

Lisa: Lexi, hi!
Lexi: Hi Lisa, glad you could make it.
Lisa: Sorry I'm so late. Personal matters, you understand.

Kate: I see Lisa's finally made her appearance.
Lou: Where do you think she's been? Ben says even Paul didn't know where she was at.
Kate: The older, bearded man?
Lou: That's what I'm thinking.
Kate: It's one thing to have an affair but to lower your other standards as well?

Lisa: Excuse me? You think I'm having an affair?
Kate: That's not what I said.
Lisa: Maybe not but you certainly implied it.
Kate: Well you weren't supposed to hear it anyway.
Lisa: Well next time you want to bitch, make sure I'm out of earshot then.
Lou: We weren't bitching.
Lisa: You accused me of having an affair behind my back, I think that's what they call bitching.
Kate: Well it wouldn't be out of the question, you used to be a prostitute after all.
Lisa: Yes, and both of you spent most of the nineties in prison. It doesn't mean you're still breaking the law just like being an ex-prostitute means I'm not still cheating on my husband.
Kate: But you kind of are, you were seen kissing an older man.
Lisa: That's ridiculous.
Kate: Trish Spence saw you.
Lisa: That says it all. The woman hasn't said a true word since before the pair of you left prison. So come on Paul, we're leaving. It's quite clear we're not welcome here.

Rachel: Well that was a little... awkward.
Lauren: Yes, it was.
Rachel: So you know Lisa, what's she like?
Lauren: Lisa used to be a prostitute, I think that covers things.
Rachel: And Lou and Kate - they spent time in prison?
Lauren: Minor crimes as far as I know. They're no trouble at all.
Rachel: That's good to hear, the last thing you want to hear is there's a murderer living in your street! (Laughs)
Lauren: (Laughs) So true.

Julian: With Lisa's outburst aside, that was a relatively good party.
Rachel: Yes, I think we've moved into a nice neighbourhood.

Rachel: Oh, you're making it your favourite hobby, bumping into us.
Elsa: Don't flatter yourself honey. Anyway, I just broke into your house.
Rachel: You did what?
Elsa: It's nice, it's spacious. I love what you've done with the dining room but the arrangement of the lounge could be better. I improved it for you so don't worry.
Julian: What the hell were you doing in our house?
Rachel: You'll never prove I was in there. No fingerprints you see - I wore gloves.
Julian: What were you doing in there?!
Elsa: Oh well, I must be on my way. No doubt I'll see the pair of you later, you're making quite the habit of bumping into me aren't you? (Laughs) See you around.

Rachel: What if she...?
Julian: She won't have, she can't have.

Julian: She hasn't taken anything from the kitchen!
Rachel: There's nothing missing from the lounge.
Julian: Go upstairs and check the bedroom. I'll check the bathroom to check if she's taken what we think she has.

Julian: I checked behind the bath panelling, it's still there.
Rachel: You're sure?
Julian: One hundred percent.
Rachel: Oh thank God.
Julian: She mustn't have been able to find it, we hid it well.
Rachel: Good job, if it's found you know it could make us suspects in the Joanna Richards case.

Rik: So, married life one week on - how is it?
Steve: It's pretty sweet I guess.
Ben: What about the honeymoon?
Steve: Andrea and I spent a fair bit of money on buying a house here and the wedding. We're putting it off until the end of the year.
Rik: Anyway, there's plenty of leftovers from the barbeque here. You taped the game on TV tonight, right?
Ben: Yeah, and I have plenty of beers at the house too.
Rik: Great, lets go.
Steve: What about the cleaning up?
Rik: Leave it to girls, man.
Ben: Yeah, I'll just go tell them we're leaving.

Lexi: So where the guys off to?
Lauren: Oh they said they're away to watch the game from earlier tonight.
Woman: Excuse me ladies, I believe you were involved in my husbands disappearance?

Lauren: Karen! What are you doing here?
Karen: You, Lauren, come out of hiding and soon after my husband goes missing. You think that's a coincidence?
Lauren: Karen I haven't seen you or your husband Ken for nearly three years now.
Karen: But you must have seen my husband just recently, you are after all involved in his disappearance.
Lauren: Karen, I swear to you I'm not. Nobody here is.

Kate: Hey, who are you?
Karen: I'm nobody you know.
Lou: Who is she guys?
Lexi: She used to the live on this street in 2005 before you two did.
Karen: Yes, before Lauren chased us away.
Lexi: You deserved it, you and your husband are criminals.
Karen: Looks like this street has a knack for attracting the law breakers - first my husband and I, then Lou, Kate and Kerry. And lets not forget you too Lauren.
Kate: What is she talking about?
Karen: Your friend Lauren set our home on fire before we ran away from here.
Lauren: I didn't, I swear.
Karen: But you were involved somehow.
Lauren: You'll never prove it.
Karen: Just like you'll never prove my husband killed your sister, Angel.
Lauren: That's it - get out of my house.
Karen: Don't worry, I'm on my way.
Lauren: And don't ever come back here.
Karen: Oh I'm sure you'll see me again some day.
Lauren: Just get out!
Karen: I'll see you all later. And Lauren, don't bother calling the police.

Julian: Elsa's proving to be quite the problem, isn't she?
Rachel: She certainly is.
Julian: Do you think we should deal with her?
Rachel: No, there's no point. We'd only raise suspicions with the neighbours. As long as we keep what we know well hidden there's no reason to worry.
Julian: I guess so.
Rachel: As I said, it's a nice neighbourhood, nice people and nobody knows us. Nothing to worry about.

August 2007
DC Jenkins
: So, welcome to your new home.
Lauren: This is the second move, how many more can I expect?
DC Jenkins: Hard to say but the Witness Protection Scheme along with me and the rest of the guys at the police will be keeping you safe until we catch Kerry.
Lauren: So, what's my new identity this time?
DC Jenkins: You'll go by the name of Laura Williams. 36 year old receptionist. You'll also need a new appearance - your blonde hair has grown back.
Lauren: I'll go to the hairdresser's as soon as possible.
DC Jenkins: Good. I'll be back tomorrow and I'll bring you new forms of identity - passport, driving license etc all with details of your new identity.
Lauren: Jenkins?
DC Jenkins: Yeah, Lauren?
Lauren: I've been out of a coma for a few months now but there's one thing I still don't know.
DC Jenkins: What's that?
Lauren: How did I survive?
DC Jenkins: Survive what?
Lauren: When Kerry tried to kill me again when I was in a coma?
DC Jenkins: It really isn't my place to say.
Lauren: Really?
DC Jenkins: I've been told not to tell you for your own safety.
(Silence)
DC Jenkins: Now you can settle in here, go and get your haircut and introduce yourself to the neighbours.
Lauren: Introduce myself?
DC Jenkins: Yes. Your new neighbours will be wondering who's just moved in. They'll want to know who you are.
Lauren: Won't I be risking my safety though?
DC Jenkins: They'll think something suspicious is going on if you don't do so. You might be in hiding but you've got to act normal.
Lauren: Fine, I'll do it.
DC Jenkins: Good, now I'll see you tomorrow.
Lauren: Goodbye.

The following day.

Lauren: Hi, I'm Laura Williams and I've just moved in next door.

Rachel: Oh, hi. I'm Rachel Stone. Nice to meet you.
Lauren: Do you fancy a cup of coffee at mine?
Rachel: I've just put the kettle on here actually, come on in.
