Series 4 Episode 7 - Bang Bang You're Dead

7.34pm
Sim Street, Riverside

PC Dale: Robin, what's happened? Why are there 7 body bags in the middle of the street? And the police cars...
DC Robin: You haven't heard?
Dale: I've been working all day.
Robin: I still can't believe you haven't heard. It's been all over the TV, radio and internet.
Dale: But how? I mean, 7 deaths?
Robin: Yeah.
Dale: Oh my God... what happened.
Robin: There was a bit of a situation today.
Dale: And?
Robin: I don't know how to say this.
Dale: C'mon boss.
Robin: As far as I know it all started earlier on today...

9 hours ago - 10.13am

Lou: What are you doing, Ben?
Ben: Oh, good morning honey. I'm just away to call my mother.
Lou: Why?
Ben: I have some important news for her.
Lou: I thought we were going to confront your mum together later today?
Ben: Listen, I'll explain everything later. Trust me. I just urgently need to speak to her.
Lou: Hmm, okay.

Ben: Mother, it's me.
Jackie: So, is it done? Is Lou dead?
Ben: No. I binned the champagne.
Jackie: BEN! I told you not to let your feelings get in the way. Argh! Ben, you...
Ben: Lou didn't kill Robert.
Jackie: What?
Ben: Lou only moved into Sim Street a few months ago. Robert was killed in December 2005 and Lou wasn't even around this area.
Jackie: If Lou didn't kill Robert then who did?
Ben: I know. Listen, later today I'll meet you in the pub. How about we go there for 1pm - a late lunch?
Jackie: Okay, fine. I'll see you there.

Katy: Mum, are you okay?
Lisa: I'm fine, I think I just had a little too much to drink last night.
Leon: Oh, somebody's hungover.
Katy: Nothing changes does it Leon?
Lisa: You two! Shut up - you make me sound like some alcoholic. I was just around at the pub last night, that was all.
Katy: Okay, we're not complaining.
Leon: Now what's for breakfast mum?
Lisa: I don't know, I'm not making bacon and eggs if that's what your looking for.
Katy: Cereal it is then.
Lisa: And how about for lunch I take you two out to the pub.
Katy: Fine, that sounds good.
Leon: Yeah I'm up for that.
Lisa: Good.

Kate: So, you and Ben? How are things going?
Lou: Well, very well.
Kate: Cool.
Lou: He's moving in.
Kate: Oh.
Lou: That wasn't a very supportive "Oh"
Kate: It's just that I live here too. I might feel a bit uncomfortable.
Lou: What? Seriously? No, I think things will be fine. This house is big enough anyway.
Kate: You sure?
Lou: Yeah, it'll be fine.
Kate: Okay, if you say so.
Lou: I promise you it will be.
Kate: Yeah, but if I hear the words "will you marry me" then I'm moving out. I'm not living with a soon to be married couple.
Lou: Relax, I don't think I'll be hearing that question soon.
Kate: But you're still expecting to hear it? (Laughs)
Lou: Kate! (Laughs)
(Phone rings)
Lou: Hello? ... Yeah we're here. ... Yeah, sure. ... Okay, see you soon.
Kate: Who was that?
Lou: Lexi. She wants us to come over - she has something to tell us about my wedding... I mean her wedding.

Jackie: So son, now that we're here can you tell me who the killer is. I've been dying to know all morning.
Ben: Okay, it's Lisa Roberts.
Jackie: The red haired one down the road?
Ben: Yeah, her.
Jackie: How did you find out?
Ben: She came round last night and mentioned that she used to live there - from autumn 2005 to summer 2006.
Jackie: That's between the times that Robert died.
Ben: Exactly. And the evidence fits. Remember we found those letters that Robert had from his lover? Well the initial on the letter fits - it was L and that stands for Lisa, not Lou as we previously thought.
Jackie: You know what, you're dead right. Well done son.
Ben: I am so relieved. By the way, Lou and I need to speak to you later. We have some big news for you.
Jackie: What is it?
Ben: You'll have to wait.
Jackie: What? More suspense? Oh wait... it's her, Lisa. She's just came in the door.

Steven: Muuuum. Can I borrow five quid please?
Paula: Borrow? How will you pay me back? You don't have a way of earning money.
Steven: Mum please?
Paula: Steven, I think I've lent you well over £100 since the start of the year. You really ought to get a job.
Steven: Yeah right.
Paula: You're old enough. You're 16 years old.
Steven: But I don't want a job.
Paula: And I don't want to give you money but I still do it. But from now on, I ain't giving you a penny. If you want money then earn it!

Rik: Hi Delia. I have a question. You said the other day that you met Lexi a few months ago. It sounded like it was an important meeting.
Delia: That's for her to tell you about, not me.
Rik: But she can't remember - that's why I'm asking you.
Delia: No. Sorry. I can't.
Rik: I thought you were a gossip?
Delia: I am. But I don't gossip about some things - like Lexi and myself meeting.
Rik: C'mon, is there anything I can do to persuade you?
Delia: Okay. If Lexi hasn't told you by the end of the summer then I will.
Rik: End of the summer?
Delia: Yep. No sooner.

Jackie: You're moving in with her!
Ben: Mum, keep quiet.
Jackie: You're moving in with her!
Ben: Yes, I think we've clarified that now ssshhh.
Jackie: I can't believe it. Yesterday you were inches away from killing her now you're living together.
Ben: Things have changed. She isn't who we thought she was.
Jackie: You may well have a point. But living together? Isn't that a bit soon?
Ben: No, we both feel strongly about each other.
Jackie: Oh well it looks like I can't stop you. But you must make one promise to me.
Ben: And what's that mother?
Jackie: You'll deal with Lisa?
Ben: How do I do that?
Jackie: Figure it out yourself. And if you manage to do that then you may well earn my respect back. I may actually forget the past and move on.

Kate: So what have you dragged us over here for?
Lexi: I have a question for both of you.
Lou: Oh yeah, what is it?
Lexi: Will you both be my bridesmaids at my wedding?
Kate: Of course!
Lou: Nah.
Lexi: What?
Lou: I'm only kidding, of course I will!
Kate: Who's maid of honour?
Lexi: My sister.
Lou: By the way, how are you? We haven't spoken properly since the accident.
Lexi: Why don't we grab a coffee first? I'm so thirsty.
Kate: Sure.

Rik: I'm just popping out to the supermarket, I need to get a few things.
Seth: Oh I'll come with you. I need to get a few things as well.
Kate: Me too. I really fancy some chocolate raisins - I have such a craving for them at the moment.
Lexi: What about our chat?
Kate: You and Lou go ahead. Ill be back soon.
Phyllis: And Rik, while you're there get some milk and a loaf, we've run out here.
Rik: Okay, no problem.

Lisa: So Katy, how's life?
Katy: School's going fine. Nothing much else is going on though.
Lisa: And you Leon?
Leon: The same.
Lisa: What about girlfriends and boyfriends?
Katy: I'm still single.
Leon: Same here.
Lisa: What? Why aren't you two out there enjoying life? You're only young once!
Katy: Why are you so desperate for us to have a love life?
Lisa: I'm just saying. When I was your age...
Leon: You'd already had several clients?
Lisa: Leon!
Leon: What, I'm only saying. I'm only 14 years old mum. I've got plenty of time left until I'm old.
Katy: And just because I'm single now doesn't mean I always have been.

Marie: Guess who's back?
Steve: And guess who's with her?

Lexi: Marie! Steve! How are you both? It's been so long.
Marie: I'm good thanks. And I'm employed now - and look, I'm engaged too!
Steve: And I'm married!
Lexi: Wow, so much has happened since you guys left town.
Marie: I know, we've both managed to get on with our lives.
Steve: We're so much more content living outside Riverside.
Marie: No offence to any of you lot here tough.
Lexi: Listen, why don't you guys come and get a drink and we can catch up. We have lots to talk about.

Steven: I'm not having a job here!
Paula: Why not?! I'd pay you the same as the other employees.
Steven: No, I told you I don't want a job.
Paula: You wouldn't have to work all the time, just a few hours a week.
Steven: Look, mum.
Paula: Just think about it, please.
Steven: Okay, fine. And while I'm thinking about it you can serve your first customers.

Paula: Sorry lads, we're not open just yet.
Carl: We're not here for food.
Paula: Doesn't matter, the shop isn't open.
Frank: Hey lady, we're not leaving.
Paula: You have to.
Greg: And a frail old lady like you is gonna make us leave?
Paula: Listen, just leave.

Carl: And you listen to us - empty your till and give us the money.
Paula: No. Now get out.
Carl: We don't want to do this the hard way lady but if you don't give us what we want.
Paula: Listen, we don't need to use guns do we?
Carl: Only if you don't comply.
Paula: STEVEN!
Steven: What is it mum?

(Gunshot)

Paula: NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Carl: Fine, we'll do it the hard way.
Frank: Carl, we said no guns!
Carl: Sorry but sometimes we need them.

Steven: Mum...
Paula: It's okay sweetie, you'll be okay.
Greg: What do we do?
Carl: Take the money and the run I suppose.
Henry: What's going on? Oh! Steven!
Paula: They've shot Steven and they're stealing the money. Dial 999 quickly! (Sobs)

Jackie: Did you hear that?
Ben: Yeah, that was a gunshot.
Phyllis: Everybody stay inside, I'm going to check it out.
Ben: So am I.
Jackie: I'll join you.

Jackie: Oh dear, look!
Phyllis: Here come 3 people.
Ben: I thought it was a gunshot we heard.
Delia: It probably was, those 3 guys have guns.

Jackie: What happened up there?
Frank: Get back inside in the pub and shut up lady.
Ben: Oi, leave her alone.
Frank: You too blondie.
Carl: In fact all of you get back inside and nobody dies.
Greg: We just want to get away.
(Police sirens)
Delia: Get away? You'll have a hard time with them coming.

Paula: Steven, come on, don't give up on me now.
Steven: Mum...
Paula: I'm here. I always will be.
Steven: I just want to...
Paula: No, don't close your eyes, come on, stay awake. Tell me about what's happening in your life. Have you a girlfriend?
Steven: No.
Paula: Do you like anybody?
Steven: I don't know.
Paula: (Cries) Steven don't close your eyes. You are not dying on me here. Come on.
(Silence)
Paula: Steven, talk to me!
(Silence)
Paula: STEVEN!
(Silence)
Paula: No. (Cries). Please no... (cries)

Frank: What do we do?
Greg: I don't know.
Carl: I do... everybody, get inside the pub now.
Greg: What are we doing?
Carl: Something we haven't done before - a hostage situation.
Frank: You're crazy.
Carl: It's either this or we walk straight into the hands of the police and give everything up.
Phyllis: A hostage situation? (Laughs).
Carl: Get in the pub now.
Delia: Or what? You'll shoot us? (Laughs) Yeah right...

(Gunshot)
Delia: Ahhh!

Ben: Delia!
Carl: Now get in the pub.

Carl: Now all of you, listen up. We don't want to kill anyone else, we just want to get away. The police are outside but there must be a way we can get out of here unnoticed.
Jackie: You're just biding time. The police will get you whatever happens.
Greg: Listen you, unless you want to end up like your friend outside I suggest you shut up.
Carl: What I'm saying is that all of you must listen to what we say. No phone calls. Nobody gets out. Nobody gets in. Is that clear? I don't think I need an answer, it's too obvious. Now there must be a basement in here where you can all go. Who owns this place?
Phyllis: Erm, I do.
Carl: Show me the basement.
Phyllis: It's the door next to the jukebox.
Carl: Good. Now all of you, get down there now.

DC Robin: Listen guys I'm calling this as a hostage situation - and a major one. They could have up to 10 people in there as hostages. Gavin, go and call for back up. We have to treat this situation with extreme caution. I think if I can talk to one of the hostage takers then we could maybe get them to release the hostages. The hostage takers look young anyway, they can't be thinking straight.
Yvonne: Who's going to approach them then?
Winston: I will. I've dealt with similar situations before.
Robin: Okay, good. And I'll back you up. First though we need to protect the scene.

Katy: Mum I'm scared.
Lisa: It's okay, everything will be fine.
Katy: Will it?
Marie: If there ever was a thing to remind us why we moved away, this is it!
Steve: Why did we choose today of all days to come back?
Carl: Now all of you, remain calm and nobody gets hurt.
Frank: C'mon Carl, do we really need this?
Greg: Yeah, all we planned to do was take some money from a few shops.
Carl: Listen guys, I didn't want to do this either but with the police outside we have no way to escape.

Carl: Now all of you - stay calm and do anything wrong. Then you won't get killed. We just want to get out of here and we're using you to do that. Just don't give us any reason to harm you and you'll be fine. We're going upstairs to keep the police back. Somebody will be making sure none of you escape. If any of you appear at the top of the stairs we'll shoot.

Kate: Oh my God, what's happening?!
Rik: The whole street...
Kate: C'mon lets check it out.

Robin: I'm sorry, nobody is allowed beyond here.
Kate: But we live here!
Rik: Our friends and family.
Robin: I'm sorry.
Kate: At least let us go and talk to our neighbours over there.
Rik: Please.
Robin: Okay, but do not, under any circumstances approach any of the houses in the street. If you do we'll be forced to take action. We have the situation under control.

Kate: Paula, what's happening.
Paula: Three guys, they just came into the bakery.... no warning at all. They just shot Steven dead (cries).
Kate: Oh Paula, I'm so sorry to hear that.
Henry: They've taken the rest of the street hostage in the pub.
Rik: Who?
Henry: Phyllis, Jackie, Lexi... everyone apart from us. The police have checked the other houses and they're all empty.
Kate: Oh my God.
Rik: Is anyone else dead?
Henry: Over there, there's another body. It's behind the big police car.
Kate: Who is it?
Henry: Delia.

Steve: I have to phone Andrea.
Marie: No, they said no phone calls.
Steve: But she's my fiancé.
Marie: They'll see you.
Steve: No they won't, not if you're standing in front of me.
Marie: Fine, but make it a quick call.

Ben: Mother! I just remembered... you have one.
Jackie: I have what?
Ben: A gun. I know you always carry one with you.
Jackie: How do you know that?
Ben: I'm not stupid. You keep it in your handbag.
Jackie: It's not like we can use it. They have 3 guns, we only have 1.
Ben: It's better than nothing.

Steve: Everything will be fine Andrea, I'm sure. They can't kill us all, they don't have enough bullets for a start.
Marie: Hurry up Steve, they're coming back.
Steve: I love you too.
Carl: Oi, you!
Marie: Steve!
Frank: Shoot him!

(Gunshot)

Steve: Marie!
Frank: You missed... you idiot.
Carl: It's still a death all the same. I don't care.

Rik: That was another gunshot. Oh no.
Kate: Rik I'm sure everything will be fine.
Rik: If only I hadn't left the house I could be in there with her.
Kate: Lexi will be fine and you know it.
Rik: And our baby. What if they?
Kate: They won't kill a baby.
Rik: But what if they make her motherless?
Kate: They won't Rik. C'mon, you have to stay strong.

Robin: Okay, I think it's time we tried to contact the hostage takers.
Yvonne: How do we do that?
Robin: One of the hostages must have a phone on them. Talk to one of the residents over there, they'll have phone numbers on them. Apart from that we just wait. There's not much else we can do.

Jackie: Phyllis, you can handle a gun, right? You used to be a cop?
Phyllis: Yes, why?
Jackie: I found this down here.
Phyllis: You "found" it?
Jackie: Does it matter? We have a gun.
Phyllis: How do we use it though? I mean we can't just go and shoot them. They'll shoot us back and with 3 guns we're outnumbered.
Jackie: I'll think of something. There's got to be a way.
(Phone rings)

Carl: Don't answer that!
Lexi: It's Rik, my boyfriend.
Carl: Give me the phone.
Robin: Hello.
Carl: Hello. Who is this?
Robin: I'm Robin, a police officer.
Carl: You have the wrong number (hangs up)

Robin: He hung up.
Yvonne: Doesn't sound like they can be negotiated with.
Robin: Usually there's a way of communicating with them. I think it's time one of us went inside. I'll go and speak to Winston. He offered to do it earlier.
Yvonne: Okay then.

Lexi: How is Marie doing?
Steve: Not well. She needs medical treatment as soon as possible.
Lexi: I'm sure she'll be fine.
Steve: You don't know that. And this is all my fault.
Lexi: It's not, don't say that Steve.
Steve: If only I hadn't phoned Andrea.

Phyllis: So you go to the bottom of the stairs, cause a distraction.
Jackie: And then when one of them approaches me Ben will grab them and I'll grab their gun.
Phyllis: Then one of us takes one of the hostage takers hostage while the other points a gun at them.
Jackie: Do we shoot at all or are we just threatening?
Phyllis: Depends what happens. If they shoot at us then shoot back.
Jackie: Okay, well here we go.

Robin: Are you sure, Winston? You're really up for entering the pub?
Winston: Yeah, somebody's gotta do it.
Robin: Good luck. And be careful.

Jackie: Oi, you guys up there.
Frank: And you, old lady, shut up. We've already told you before.
Jackie: It's my phone, somebody's calling me.
Frank: Throw me your phone.
Jackie: Come and get it. I can't throw well.

Ben: Come here you idiot!

(Gunshot)
Jackie
: Argh!

Ben: MOTHER!
(Ben grabs the gun from the hostage taker)

Ben: You'll pay for that you son of a bitch.

(Gunshot)

Lexi: Phyllis! Look out!

(Gunshot)

Greg: Get out of the pub!
Winston: I'm only here to talk.
Greg: I don't do talking.

(Gunshot x2)

Rik: NOOO! There were so many gunshots there...
Kate: I don't know what to think.
Rik: I think I might have a panic attack.

Phyllis: I'm going upstairs.
Lexi: Be careful.
Phyllis: You guys, it's okay to come up.
Lexi: Are you sure? What happened to the other guy?
Phyllis: He's dead. He's been shot as well.

Yvonne: They're coming outside - look!
Robin: No sign of Winston though.

Rik: Lexi! I'm so happy.
Lexi: So am I! I didn't think I'd ever see you again.

Kate: Lou! Are you okay?
Lou: I'm fine.
Kate: What happened? What about Ben? Is he okay?
Lou: His mum's been shot.

Lisa: You kids come here. I am never letting you out of my sight ever again. And I promise to be the best mother ever from now on.

Seth: Oh Phyllis.
Phyllis: I'm okay, I'm safe.
Seth: I know, but life sure is a handful with you around.

Henry: Come here, Paula.

Ben: Will she be okay?
Robin: The paramedics are dealing with the people in the pub. They're on their way down. How's your mum doing?
Ben: She's alive - definitely breathing. She's just unconscious now. I don't think the bullet hit any organs - it seems to have hit her hip.
Robin: Okay, well the paramedics will be here soon. I'm sure everything will be okay.
Ben: See mother, I told you everything would be okay.

Robin: Is she alive
Steve: She's dead.
Robin: Are you sure?
Steve: She has no pulse, she isn't breathing. Of course I'm sure!
Robin: I'm sorry to hear that.

Rik: Thanks Kate. You were a tower of support today.
Kate: And thank you too. I'm just so glad that today is over.

Lou: I am so happy Ben. I never thought we'd get out of there. How's you mum?
Ben: Alive. I think she'll be okay. Hopefully. She's in an ambulance now and on her way to hospital.

Yvonne: Did you see Winston? Is he okay?
Robin: No, he's been shot.
Yvonne: Oh?
Robin: And he's dead.
Yvonne: Oh... oh my God.
Robin: I'm so sorry Yvonne.
Yvonne: Me too.

9.23pm
Robin
: And that's what happened.
Dale: Who died? I haven't managed to take it all in yet.
Robin: The 3 hostage takers are all dead. So is Winston. Two women in their mid twenties. Delia and Marie I think their names are. And a young kid called Steven. An older woman is in hospital. She's in a critical condition but is stable.
Dale: What's happening now?
Robin: We've cleared the whole street and the residents are back in their homes. Most of them are at the hospital though.
Dale: What about interviews and an investigation?
Robin: That's being covered tomorrow. I'm just heading home now. I've had such a dramatic day.
Dale: Understandable. I think I'll join you. There's no point in me staying around here.
Robin: There's more police in a few of the vehicles. I'll let them know we're heading off.
Dale: Yeah, okay.
Robin: And then I'm off home to put my feet up, enjoy a beer and watch the football match that the wife's taped for me.
