Lisa
: Oh my God! What the hell are you doing here Rob?
Rob: I came to whisk you away!
Lisa: How the hell did you get in?
Rob: The front door... why, is there another way?
Lisa: Stop fooling around Rob, seriously, what on Earth are you doing here? It's Christmas day, shouldn't you be with friends and family?
Rob: I don't have any remember? Your the only person in my life.
Lisa
: Well I'm sorry Rob, you'll have to go, quickly. Paul and the kids have just popped out.
Rob: Well that gives us a bit of time for some woohoo then!
Lisa: Rob, I don't want you, I just want to be with my family today. Now grab your clothes and get out the back door, Paul will be home any minute now! He'll kill us both if he finds out about our affair.

31st December 2006
Richard
: What's the matter Vanessa?
Vanessa: (Coughs) I don't know... I can't breath.
Richard: Oh my God, somebody HELP!
Vanessa: Phone for an ambulance.
Richard: I don't have a phone.
Vanessa: Richard I love you.
Richard: Don't say that, I'm away to get help.
Vanessa: I don't think I have much time.
Richard: I love you too, Vanessa. I'll go and get help.

Kerry: Unhappy New Year Kate!
Kate: Straight back at you. Now let me out!
Kerry: (Laughs) No.
Kate: What a minute, I have keys.
Kerry: No you don't I've stolen them.
Kate: I'll use the elevator.
Kerry: There's no elevator on that side of the door.
Kate: You mean I'm trapped.
Kerry: Oh yes.
Kate: You bitch!
Kerry: Don't worry, I'll leave the keys by the door. The police can let you out when they get here and you can tell them how you let me escape.

Series 4 Episode 2 - It's Not You, It's Me

25th December 2005 3.23pm
It's Christmas Day 2005 - the last time we saw Paul and Lisa Roberts.

Lisa, a 40 year old mother of two and husband to Paul Roberts, was having an affair with a local resident going by the name of Rob Wilson.

Lisa: Rob - I thought I told you to get out and leave my home.
Rob: I love you Lisa, I want us to be together!
Lisa: Well I don't! Please, we shouldn't even be up here, it's cold, it's snowing and it isn't safe - we're still in the middle of building this room!
Rob: I'm not leaving Lisa, we deserve to be together. We can tell Paul together! He should know about our secret love affair.

Rob: Why don't we shout on him... PAUL!
Lisa
: Shut up! He'll hear you!
Rob: That's the point... PAUL!

Lisa: You stupid man! Can't you just listen to me -  I am not leaving my husband. And even if he does find out, I'd rather be alone than with you!
Rob: Watch it! I'm close to the edge!
Lisa: Well you'd better make sure you don't fall.
Rob: Well if I do, I'll make sure I grab you.

Lisa: You wouldn't dare!
Rob: Try me then, or are you too scared? You slapper!

Paul: Arghhhh!
Lisa: Serves you bloody right!

Following the incident, the body of Rob Wilson was hidden in Lisa's shed - a place she returned to later that night.

2.21am
Lisa
: Oh Rob. I never meant for this to happen. I honestly didn't. (Cries)

And then Lisa, in the middle of the night, dug a hole in her garden where she put Rob's body before covering the hole up.

A few days later the snow had disappeared from Sim Street.
Lisa: Paul, what are you doing out here? It's freezing.
Paul: Oh I was just checking the weather. I think I'll continue working on the balcony today.
Lisa: Oh, okay.
Paul: And I might fertilise the grass - it's muddy over there. It looks like it's been dug up.
Lisa: I think that was just the kids when they out playing in the snow making snowmen and having snowball fights.

Paul and Lisa moved away from Sim Street within a month of Rob's murder. Lisa has managed to avoid being suspected as a killer however the body of Rob Wilson remains buried in the garden of the house she once lived in.

March 2007 8.45am
Lou Parker arrived home from her holiday in New York a few days ago. She lives in the house that used to belong to Paul and Lisa.

Lou: Good morning Ben.
Ben: What are you doing out here?
Lou: I was just enjoying the sunshine - it's such a beautiful day.
Ben: It is. By the way, I have a surprise for you tonight.
Lou: Ooh, what is it?
Ben: All I'm saying is that you should be ready to leave here at 6.30pm. I'll speak to you later, I'm starving and away to make breakfast.

9.34am
Lou: So how's your mum settling in down the street?
Ben: She seems fine. I don't know why she insisted on following me back over here. I guess she might have felt lonely living alone in New York. She'll cope anyway, we used to live not far away from here - a place called Veronaville. I grew up there. We - my mother and I - only moved to New York two years ago.
Lou: You never told me that - I just assumed you'd lived in New York for a while.
Ben: Nah. I wanted a change of lifestyle - I lost my job and girlfriend so I went to New York in search of something different. I didn't find it and now I'm back here and I'm in the same situation - except I have a girlfriend.
Lou: But you're jobless.
Ben: Don't worry, it shouldn't be too hard to find work around here.

Lou: It depends on the job.
Ben: Speaking of work - aren't you supposed to be working today?
Lou: Yes but I told them I'd be working from home today.
Ben: Except you're not.
Lou: I'll do it later. That's the good thing about home working - it's flexible.
Ben: What exactly do you do in your job?
Lou: I'm in advertising. Right now I'm supposed to be working on an advertising campaign for some clothes shop. They have a new collection coming out soon.
(Doorbell rings)
Lou: I'll get that.

Ben: If that's my mother at the door, tell her I'm still asleep or something - I can't be bothered to talk to her today.
Lou: Alright.

Lou: Kate... oh my God!
Kate: Hi Lou. I thought you'd be surprised.

Lou: Don't just stand there, give me a hug. So, where have you been? Everyone's been wondering.
Kate: I'll explain later. I'm starving though - can I...
Lou: Breakfast?
Kate: Yeah, that would be great.
Lou: Sure, come inside.

Paula: Oh hey Richard. I thought I saw you going about this morning. Where have you been lately?
Richard: In Ireland.
Paula: For two months?
Richard: Yeah. Ever since early January.
Paula: Why? Are you moving there?
Richard: Hmm, yeah, kind of.
Paula: Are you sure everything's alright?
Richard: Yeah, yeah, it's fine.
Paula: I'm not convinced - come on, lets go inside. I'll make you a nice cup of hot chocolate and we can talk.

Paula: You're Christmas decorations are still up?
Richard: This is the first time I've been home since before the new year.
Paula: Yeah, about that. What happened at the new year? The last we all saw of you was when Vanessa was being whisked away by an ambulance.
Richard: Yeah, Vanessa collapsed at new year.
Paula: Oh no - was she alright?
Richard: Yeah she's fine now - she's still in Ireland at the moment. But she gave me one hell of a shock at the new year though.
Paula: What happened?
Paula: Well...

1st January 2007, 6.21am
Paris, France
Just after midnight, Vanessa collapsed at Hotel Madison. She was admitted to hospital just over five hours ago.
Richard: So what's the latest?
Nurse Abigail: Your wife is in a stable condition and she's asleep. I expect she'll be sleeping off all the drugs that have been in her system over the past few hours.
Richard: Will she make a full recovery?
Nurse Abigail: Oh yes, we fully expect so.
Richard: Did I do the right thing by bringing her here?
Nurse Abigail: I don't know - you'll have to ask your wife when she wakes up.
Richard: When will that be?
Nurse Abigail: I don't know, it could be any time I suppose.

1.41pm
Lou
: So Kate, tell us, where have you been?
Kate: Well I was trapped in the basement for two days. I think it was a member of hotel staff who let me out. When I got out I just stayed in France. I went to a hotel, checked in and stayed there for two months.
Lou: Didn't you know the police were after you?
Kate: I didn't have a clue - I heard about Kerry escaping and Dave being shot but nothing else.
Lou: You didn't even think about going to the police?
Kate: Yes, I did think about that but I couldn't be bothered with the hassle. If they wanted to talk to me then they could come and find me.
Lou: When did you realise they were looking for you?
Kate: When I arrived back in Riverside earlier this week, a local resident said to me "Oh dear Lord, everyone thinks you're dead." I knew then I had to go to the police.
Jackie: Well you've certainly caused some controversy, Kate.
Lou: And Jackie, it isn't the first time we thought she was dead - she faked her death last year as part of a police investigation.
Jackie: You've faked your own death twice now?

Kate: To be fair, the first was part of a police investigation, as Lou has said, and the second time was just a mistake. It won't be happening again, I promise. No more fake deaths, love affairs or murder from me in 2007. I'm living a law abiding life this year.
Lou: Yeah okay, like that's ever going to happen.
Kate: Excuse me?
Lou: (Laughs). Kate, controversy follows you everywhere.
Jackie: Talking of controversy, can I speak to you in private, Ben?
Ben: Yeah sure. I don't see why it has to be in private though.
Jackie: You'll see.

Ben: So mother, you have something important to tell me?
Jackie: Yes - ditch Lou.
Ben: What? Why?
Jackie: Just do it - and quickly.
Ben: No - she's nice, I like her.
Jackie: I don't care, I still want you to dump her.
Ben: No, I refuse to. It's not often a woman actually sticks around with me after a first date.
Jackie: Oh, that's not your fault.
Ben: Emily, Steph, Gloria, Jane and Helen - five women who I started proper relationships with and within half a year each one left me and I never spoke to them again.
Jackie: They were just silly women, Ben.
Ben: Unlike Lou - which is why I am not dumping her.

Jackie: Oh you'll dump her - I'll make sure of it.
Ben: Oh for goodness sake mother, stop being so ridiculous.
Jackie: I'm being ridiculous? I'm being ridiculous?! I'm not the one who moved over 3,000 miles just to be with a girl who I've known for less than a month!
Ben: That's not the point. You're consistently checking me up, just waiting to catch me out. And you're always telling me what to do - you're a control freak and I'm fed up of you interfering with my life.
Jackie: There's no point in denying it, I am a control freak...
Ben: Good, at least you can admit it. Now why can't you just leave me alone. Why did you have to follow me to Sim Street. I mean for Gods sake mother, I'm 28 years old and I can't even move out of home properly.
Jackie: The reason, Ben, is that Sim Street isn't just any other street. I did my research and I found out something pretty interesting.
Ben: What? What's so wrong with Sim Street?
Jackie: I'll tell you on one condition.
Ben: What's that?
Jackie: You dump Lou.
Ben: And what if I don't leave Lou.
Jackie: Then I'll make Lou leave you.

Lou: So you've been in south France for the past two months?
Kate: Yep. It was a nice holiday.
Lou: What about now? Are you back in your old apartment.
Kate: No. My tenant, like everyone else, thought I was dead and sold it on - to that Jackie woman.
Lou: Oh. And what about your clothes and furniture?
Kate: They were donated to charity shops around Riverside. The only clothes I have now are the ones I went to France with.
Lou: You can live here, Kate.
Kate: What about Ben - isn't he living here?
Lou: Sort of. He lives with his mum but he's up here at mine most of the time. He'll probably move in soon.
Kate: Talk about a whirlwind romance - one month and the guy's moving in.
Lou: He's nice - and I think he'll be around for a while.
Kate: And so will I - because I'm moving in. I'll take you up on your offer.

Paula: How long was it before Vanessa regained consciousness?
Richard: About 20 hours or so. I stayed in the hospital until she woke.
Paula: And did you ask her if you did the right thing?
Richard: Yes.

1st January 2007 10pm

11.56pm
Richard
: It's nice to see you awake Vanessa.
Vanessa: What? Where am I? What happened?
Richard: You're in a hospital in Paris. And I think you know very well what happened.
Vanessa: Richard, listen, I'm sorry.
(Silence)

Richard: You tried to kill yourself. You overdosed on drugs. I nearly lost you.
Vanessa: I can explain.
Richard: How? Vanessa you did a silly thing. I can't believe you tried to take your own life. I know you'll die from cancer eventually but we still have a few months ahead of us. There's no point running off and trying to kill yourself.
Vanessa: I panicked. I'm scared of dying. I thought it would be an easier, quicker and less painful way.
Richard: For you, maybe. For me? No. I was so scared. I wasn't ready to lose you.
Vanessa: I left you a note at home. It explained everything.
Richard: That doesn't mean anything.
Vanessa: I'm sorry, I'm scared. You're not going to leave me now are you? I don't think I can go through dying from cancer on my own.
Richard: I'm not going anywhere on my own. But I need to know one thing - did I do the right thing bringing you here?
Vanessa: Like you said, I did a stupid thing.
Richard: Listen, when you're able to leave here why don't we go straight to Ireland? I've rented a house in the country and we have it for a year starting today.
Vanessa: That would be nice. But what about clothes and furniture and stuff?
Richard: The house is already furnished. And we can buy new things - we have the money.

Vanessa: It sounds like a great plan - I can't wait to get out of here.

Paula: So she's in Ireland right now?
Richard: Yeah. I didn't want to drag her all the way back here when all I'm doing is picking up a few bits and pieces.
Paula: You're staying in Ireland permanently then?
Richard: Yeah. At least until Vanessa passes away.
Paula: Are you keeping this house here?
Richard: No, a family have bought it - they're moving in later today. They gave me a really good price for it as well - they've bought everything including the furniture.
Paula: That must make you a millionaire now then?
Richard: No, we're about £100,000 away from it. By the way, about the money - Vanessa and I are only keeping about £100,000 of it. Just enough to make sure we're financially secure. And listen, I heard about Henry getting the sack. Why don't I give you the rest.
Paula: What? No. I couldn't do that.
Richard: Really, you can have it. We won it on the lottery and ever since it's giving us bad luck. Plus, it's not like we earned it.
Paula: I suppose I could take some of it.
Richard: Is £500,000 enough?
Paula: I was thinking maybe a few thousand.
Richard: It's up to you. Take as much as you want. It's not every day you get money handed to you on a plate.
Paula: I'll think about it.

Richard: I'll e-mail you or phone about the money. I know you need it the most on this street so you can have some of it. The rest will go to charity.
Paula: Thank you Richard. It means a lot.
Richard: I know it does which is why I'm giving you it. And thanks for coming to speak to me. I thought everybody would have forgotten about Vanessa and I. Now I'm off to pack up a few things like clothes before the new family get here.

Paula: I hope you enjoy your time in Ireland with Vanessa.
Richard: I'm sure we will. I'll try and keep in contact with you.
Paula: Yeah, same here.

4.34pm
Lexi
: So Phyllis, has Kerry definitely escaped from the police again?

Lexi: Phyllis, I asked you a question - don't walk away from me.

Phyllis: I'm sorry, dear. I never realised I was answerable to you.
Lexi: No, but it's polite to answer a question when asked.
Phyllis: I'm not going to lie to you, Lexi. Seth and I know we're not welcome in the house.
Lexi: What?
Phyllis: Rik made it perfectly clear that he'd rather this house belonged just to you and him.
Lexi: Perhaps that's true. However it doesn't mean you have to create a hostile environment. Rik and I still like both of you.
Phyllis: Okay sweetie, whatever you say.

Lexi: And that's another thing - the patronising. Can it please stop.
Phyllis: I don't know what you're talking about.
Lexi: Oh I think you do.
Phyllis: I don't. Now lets forget we had this conversation. It's ruining my otherwise fine day. Now if you'll excuse me, I have coffee to drink and a newspaper to read. And while you're stood around here doing nothing, this floor needs sweeping. If you wouldn't mind, thanks?

Lexi: Okay the patronising was bad but I'm not your slave. In fact I'm not even your employee - you don't even work here. This is Rik's pub, it belongs to him.
Phyllis: But Rik's working.
Lexi: Yeah, so I'm in charge.
Phyllis: Yeah, and I don't even work here which means you're the only one here who does. So dear, get sweeping.

Lexi: I don't mind having to sweep, I just don't like being told to.
Phyllis: Well I can't help it if I'm a control freak, I tend to give orders a lot. You'll just have to learn to live with it.
Lexi: Until you move out.
Phyllis: Oh dear, Lexi, can't you understand, Seth and I are here to stay.
Lexi: It's my home, if I want you out then...
Phyllis: Seth and I are not moving out. Do I have to spell it out to you for you to understand you silly girl?

Lexi: (Slaps Phyllis) I am not going to stand here and listen to abuse from you.
Phyllis: Oh Lexi, you really are a silly girl. You don't go around slapping people like that.
Lexi: Yeah - just like how you're not supposed to go around insulting people.

Phyllis: I had good reason to call you a silly girl.
Lexi: And I had a good reason to slap you.
Phyllis: No, dear, you didn't. You might want to watch your back from now on. You don't slap Phyllis and get away with it.

4.54pm
Paul and Lisa have arrived in Sim Street.

Lisa: Oh well, we're finally here.
Paul: Yes, finally. You took your time.
Lisa: Oi, it's not my fault some idiot driver in front of me obviously can't control their driving.
Paul: (Laughs).
Lisa: It's not funny - when we go back to pick up the kids you can drive.

Richard: Ah, you're here. I thought you weren't going to turn up.
Lisa: The traffic was bad. Anyway, hi, you must be Richard.
Richard: Yeah, I am. I thought you were a family of four?
Lisa: We are. Our kids, Leon and Katy, are still in our old home. They'll be here in a few days.
Richard: Oh well. Here are the keys to the house. I hope you enjoy it. I'll see you guys later. Bye.

Lisa: Oh well Paul. Here we are.
Paul: It's nice, really nice... but there are Christmas decorations.
Lisa: I'm sure I heard him say he hasn't lived here for a few months. Oh well, no harm, we can take them down tonight.

6.34pm
Ben
: You look amazing.
Lou: Thank you. You told me to look good so I tried.
Ben: And you succeeded very well. Now come on, we have to be there for 7pm.

7.03pm
Lou
: This restaurant looks really good. I thought it was really hard to get a table in here.
Ben: It is. But when you have the cash...
Lou: Wow, you must really like me. (Laughs)
Ben: I do. You're the best thing that's happened to me in a while.
Lou: I can say the same about you. It's been a while since I've had a proper boyfriend.
(Phone rings)
Ben: Damn, that's my mobile. I'm sorry. Please excuse me.

7.12pm
Ben
: So, any idea on what you're having?
Lou: Was that an important phone call?
Ben: Erm, I don't know. I'm sorry.
Lou: What? Is something wrong?
Ben: No. I mean yes. I'm not sure.
Lou: Ben?
Ben: I don't know.
Lou: You don't know what?
Ben: I don't know if I can do this.
Lou: What? This restaurant? We can go somewhere else if you like.
Ben: No, I mean us. I don't know if I can do us.

Lou: What?
Ben: I'm sorry. I really am.
Lou: But you said you liked me!
Ben: I do. But I don't. I don't know.
Lou: You lied to me.
Ben: I'm sorry.
Lou: You said you liked me and you lied. I thought we were going somewhere.
Ben: Listen, Lou.

Lou: Just stop being so damn confusing Ben.

Ben: Argh! I'm soaked.
Lou: Now please leave Ben. I want to be on my own.

Lou: (Cries)

8.34pm
Jackie
: I'm so glad I found you Ben. Did you do it?
Ben: If you mean breaking up with Lou, then yes.
Jackie: Thank you.
Ben: But this had better be worth it. I really liked Lou. I didn't break up with her for nothing.

Jackie: Oh you'll be glad you broke up with her when I tell you what I know. Now follow me.

Ben: What are we doing in Lou's home? She could be home any minute.
Jackie: That would be good. Therefore we'd be able to kill her together.
Ben: What? What on earth are you talking about? You want to kill her now?
Jackie: Listen Ben, what I'm about to tell you isn't nice.
Ben: Go on.
Jackie: You remember your brother?
Ben: Yes, Rob.
Jackie: He's dead.
Ben: How do you know?

Jackie: I don't know - it's just a well educated guess. I did my research before moving here and I found out your brother was having an affair with some woman. I looked through all of his personal things and he had letters from a woman at this address - and the woman who lives here is Lou.
Ben: You can't be sure she killed him though.
Jackie: They were having an affair. Lou had a long term partner, as she described in the letters.
Ben: Are you sure?
Jackie: Of course I'm sure. Her name isn't mentioned in the letters, she refers to herself as just 'L' though. I'm assuming that stands for Lou.
Ben: I suppose so.
Jackie: In the letters, Rob was threatening Lou. He wanted to take her away from her partner. He said if she hadn't made up her mind by the end of the year 2005 then he'd tell her partner. Now, correct me if I'm wrong but that was when your brother went missing.

Ben: Okay, that does sound fishy. So she's connected to the disappearance of Rob. But I'm not killing her.
Jackie: Oh, and by the way, Rob was using your father's last name 'Wilson'. And that's one reason why I'm not going to the police. If the police even come near us they'll dig up our past and you know as well as I do that you'd go to jail for what you've done. We have to deal with all of this ourselves.

Ben: So what do we do next?
Jackie: We find some concrete evidence. We don't even know where she hid his body.
Ben: We don't even know that Rob's dead.
Jackie: Oh come on. It's been over a year since he was last seen. He's dead. Now help me search this house. We could find anything here from more letters to a murder weapon.
Ben: And when we do find some evidence like that?
Jackie: Then Lou will be joining your brother 6 feet under. Now come on, lets get searching.
