5.12am
Paul: No. NO! What are
you doing?

Lisa: Paul, wake up.
You’re having another nightmare.
Paul: Huh?
Lisa: You were shouting
in your sleep.
Paul: Again?
Lisa: Yes, again.
That’s the third night in a row. Whatever you’re dreaming about, it must be
bothering you. It wouldn’t happen to be the night Rob died you’re dreaming
about?
Paul: No, of course
not.
Lisa: Well I
think it is.
Paul: And why’s that?
Lisa: Shouting the name
Rob in your sleep kind of gives it away.
Paul: Do I?
Lisa: Yes. It’s
obviously bothering you. Maybe you should just tell me what happened to get it
off your mind.
Paul: I can’t.
Lisa: Well we’ve had
this argument enough times so I’m not going to start another one. Just promise
me you’ll tell me eventually.
Paul: I’ll let you know
sometime. I just need to know for sure that I can trust you.

7.30am
Henry: Good morning
honey, are you ready for today? We have the meeting with the psychiatrist at
10am and I thought we could go out for lunch afterwards. It would be nice to eat
out for once, wouldn’t it? And we could maybe go to the
cinema or go bowling as well. Something fun for a change.
Paula: How can you
carry on like normal?
Henry: What?
Paula: You wouldn’t
think your son had died just recently. You’re just acting like nothing has ever
happened.
Henry: What’s brought
this on?
Paula: You are your “ooooh, lets go bowling”, “lets do something fun”.
Our son died this year and all you want to do is carry on as normal!
Henry: I’m just trying
to get on with life. There’s no point moping around forever.
Paula: Oh of course. I
mean losing a son is no big deal.
Henry: I never said
that!
Paula: You may as well
have.
Henry: Don’t you dare
think for a second that I don’t care.
Paula: Well you haven’t
shown it!
Henry: Haven’t shown
it? Haven’t shown it?! What would you know? You’ve been wrapped up in yourself
for the past three months.
Paula: I have not.

Henry: You have! You
don’t know that for the past three months I’ve cried myself to sleep every
night. Every night. I grieve every day for our lost son. I visit his grave every
Wednesday. What about you? You’ve just sat here curled up feeling sorry for
yourself.
Paula: I do not.
Henry: Tell me then,
Paula, when did you last visit Steven’s grave?
Paula: I don’t know.
Henry: His funeral
then?
(Silence)
Henry: Thought so. So
don’t try and tell me that I don’t care or that I haven’t grieved. Because I
have. I just try and carry on as normal because it’s the one thing that keeps me
going. I don’t want to dwell on the past too much because I’d just become a
wreck like you.
Paula: Well maybe
instead of trying to carry on as normal you could help me. You know I’ve been
finding it hard trying to cope with Steven’s death.
Henry: Oh sure. I mean
all these psychiatrist meetings I’ve been setting up have all been for nothing.
It’s nice you’re finally showing some feelings and opinions, must be the first
time since Steven’s death, but I just wish they were on something else. Maybe
the meeting today will put you in a better mood. It might even change your
outlook on life.

9.03am
Paul: Where have you
been?
Lisa: Out for a run. I
couldn’t get back to sleep this morning after you woke me up so I got up, did
some cleaning and went for a run around Riverside.
Paul: Oh, okay. Well
I’ve been up for the past hour or so and I’ve done some thinking.
Lisa: Oh, you have?
Paul: Yeah. I think
it’s time I told you about why I can’t tell you who killed Rob.
Lisa: So you’re not
going to tell me who it was?
Paul: No, not at the
moment.
Lisa: Okay, well
something’s better than nothing. Out with it.
Paul: Okay, the reason
I can’t tell you who Rob’s killer is, is because they’re living in Sim Street.
Lisa: And why is that
the problem?
Paul: Because if I told
you who it was then you’d probably do something stupid like confront them or
even worse, try to kill them.

Lexi: Hi Rik. Are you
busy?
Rik: Not at the moment,
no.
Lexi: And what about
tonight? Are you busy then?
Rik: No. Why? Have you
got something planned?
Lexi: Yes, I was
planning on having a night out. I was thinking we could go out for a romantic
meal and then see where things go from there.
Rik: Sounds great. I’ll
be home at the usual time then.
Lexi: Okay, see you
then.

11.38am
Lou: Okay, I’m glad
we’ve all agreed that we won’t be going to the police over Rob’s body but Ben,
you need to find out what you’re mothers planning on doing.
Ben: I’ll find out,
don’t worry.
Lou: If she’s going to
dig up my garden again then I need to know.
Kate: And if she’s just
planning on leaving the body in the garden then we might need a rethink about
going to the police.
Ben: Okay well I
promise I’ll ask her to do something about the body.
Lou: When is she due
home from the hospital by the way?
Ben: Last week.
Lou: Oh. I thought we
would have heard from her if she was home already.
Ben: She’s been in bed
most of the week. The operation took a lot out of her. I’ll visit her later
today to find out what’s she up to and what she’s planning.
Lou: Good. I think we
should lay off the issue of your dead brother now. There’s so much more going on
now – Rik and Lexi are getting married in two weeks, we are going to take a
holiday shortly and I’m sure you, Kate, have something planned.
Kate: No. Not really.
I’m still jobless and boyfriendless.
Lou: Well that gives me
something else to do – find you a man.

4.12pm
Phyllis: What is that
awful smell? And what is that?
Lexi: I tried cooking
something earlier today? Didn’t really turn out well.
Phyllis: You? Cook?
Lexi: Well I tried.
Guess that’s why Rik and I go out when we want a proper meal, none of us can
cook that greatly. That's why I'm dressed up at the moment, we're going out
tonight.
Phyllis: Well at least
you can dress better than you can cook – however you get dressed in the dark,
Lexi.
Lexi: Complimentary as ever, Phyllis. (!)

Seth:
Did I just see that?
Phyllis: What?
Seth: A police officer stealing?
Phyllis: I was just borrowing. I shall give Lexi her purse back tomorrow.
Seth: After she's come home from a night out?
Phyllis: It's just a bit of fun, Seth. No harm done.
Seth: Well at least Rik will be able to pay for their night out tonight.
Unless you plan on borrowing his wallet too?
Phyllis: No. But I do have something else planned.
Seth: Go on then, explain.
Phyllis: I'll offer him a drink before he goes out - except it shall
contain a few sleeping pills.
Seth: Well you know, there really is no doubt of who your daughter is.
Phyllis: I taught Kerry well.
Seth: You certainly did... but maybe you taught her just a bit too well.

Rik: Is
this drink here yours?
Phyllis: No. I made it for you, I thought you might need it before you go
out tonight.
Rik: Thanks, I was gagging for that. Now I'll see you later. Lexi and I
are going to be late if we don't leave soon.

Kate:
Oh hi Lisa.
Lisa: Hi Kate, are you just doing a bit of last minute shopping too?
Kate: Yeah, just before the shops close.
Lisa: Hey, you wouldn't fancy coming back to mine for a drink after
you've finished would you?
Kate: Yeah sure, that would be great.
Lisa: Good. I picked up a few things down the road over today - a few
films, some chocolate, wine and so on. Was planning on having a girly night in
on my own but it would be nice to have some company.
Kate: Is Paul away on a work trip again?
Lisa: No, I'm just ignoring him for a while.
Kate: Oh, okay. I hope he isn't around tonight then - I'm not keen on
awkward situations with other couples.
Lisa: I'm sure he won't be. I'll make sure he stays out of our way all
night.

Lexi:
Are you feeling okay?
Rik: Yeah, I think. I just feel a bit woozy, that's all.
Lexi: Maybe you'll feel a bit better when we get seated at the
restaurant.
Rik: Yeah. I'm really looking forward to tonight. I haven't had a cooked
meal all week, I've been so busy with work.
Lexi: Well the original plan was to have a night in. I was going to cook
a meal for us but when I practised this morning it went a bit wrong.
Rik: I would've been happy with that, I've gotten used to your crap
cooking. (Laughs)
Lexi: Hey! (Laughs) I'm not that bad.

Lisa:
So you're single right?
Kate: Yes, unfortunately.
Lisa: And you're jobless too?
Kate: Yeah, I feel pretty empty at the moment.
Lisa: So would I. It must be horrible having no male company and having
no income. I've always been lucky to have at least both a relationship and job
throughout most of my life.
Kate: Yeah, thanks for rubbing it in.
Lisa: Oh no, I wasn't rubbing it in, sorry.
Kate: It's no problem. So you've never been out of a job?
Lisa: Never.
Kate: Really?
Lisa: Well, I don't know if you'd call what I did between jobs a proper
job...
Kate: Prostitution? I mean no offence if you weren't one, it's just...
Lisa: Yeah, I was.
Kate: Phew. I never thought before saying that and then I realised after
that I might have offended you. (Laughs).
Lisa: It was a good guess, how did you know?
Kate: I did it too.
Lisa: Oh right, I'm a little surprised at that. Never thought you'd go
down that route.
Kate: Long time ago, I was in my early twenties. Big mistake.
Lisa: So now we're on the topic of secrets, have you any others?

Henry:
Well the meeting with the psychiatrist went well this morning, don't you think?
Paula: Yeah, I suppose.
Henry: Are you ready to leave soon? I've booked a table for us at a
restaurant and then I thought we could go to the cinema.
Paula: I'm ready to leave but not with you.
Henry: What do you mean?
Paula: I'm leaving Sim Street, just for a few days though. I just need
time away from everything.

7.54pm
Lexi: So then Phyllis makes a criticism on the way I dress. She's
unbelievable.
Rik: Criticism? But you look gorgeous.
Lexi: Thank you.
Rik: I do think it might be time again to bring up the idea with Phyllis
and Seth about moving out. I would just feel a bit guilty trying to throw old
people out onto the street.
Lexi: Yeah, so would I. But if it needs to be done then it needs to be
done. Obviously we'd do it after the wedding though.
Rik: Yeah.
Lexi: Are you still feeling a bit light-headed? You look really tired.
Rik: I think I need some fresh air. I might go outside for a few minutes
if that's okay?
Lexi: Yes, of course. Anything that makes you feel better.

Lisa:
Oh come on you must have more secrets.
Kate: I don't.
Lisa: You've been involved in prostitution, been to jail and been on the
witness protection scheme. And you have no other secrets?
Kate: Well, I might have heard Henry and Paula arguing over the past few
weeks.
Lisa: Oh that's old news, everybody knows their marriage is on the rocks.
Any new gossip?
Kate: None. Or at least none that I can talk about.
Lisa: Oh, so you do have gossip. I think it's time we had some more
drink.
Kate: Getting me drunk won't make me talk, Lisa.
Lisa: Lets try and see anyway.

9.02pm
Lexi: Phyllis, it's Lexi.
Phyllis: What's the matter? You sound angry.
Lexi: Rik has left me - he's wandered off somewhere. And now I'm trying
to pay for our meal and I can't find my purse!
Phyllis: And what do you want me to do?
Lexi: I'd be extremely grateful if you could come and give me some money
and a lift home.
Phyllis: Sorry, I can't. I'm busy.
Lexi: Doing what?
Phyllis: I'm washing my hair.
Lexi: All night?
Phyllis: Goodnight, Lexi.
(Phyllis hangs up)
Lexi: Phyllis? Hello?

Kate:
Well, you can't tell anyone you know. Or anyone you don't know.
Lisa: I promise?
Kate: Promise, promise?
Lisa: Double promise, triple promise - whatever it takes.
Kate: There's a dead body buried in Sim Street!
Lisa: Really? Erm, who is it?
Kate: A man. A brother of a Sim Street resident.
Lisa: I'm truly shocked. (!) What else is there to know?
Kate: And the murderer lives in Sim Street too.
Lisa: Who? Let me guess - Phyllis. She looks like she'd kill. Or maybe
Henry - maybe that's why Paula and him have been arguing.
Kate: Wrong and wrong.
Lisa: Then who is it?
Kate (Leans forward, whispers) You!

Lisa:
Me? (Laughs)
Kate: Don't worry, you're secret's safe with us.
Lisa: Us?!
Kate: Ben, Lou and myself.
Lisa: How do you know?
Kate: Robert, the man you killed, is Ben's brother.
Lisa: Oh. Oh dear. And that means Jackie is Rob's mother?
Kate: Yes. But I've said too much. I won't say anything to anyone now.
Lisa: Oh, well you've explained so much to me tonight. Thank you. Things
finally make sense now.

11.08pm
Lexi: Whatever you did tonight you certainly did it well. My night, along
with Rik's, has been ruined.
Phyllis: Good evening Lexi. I wasn't expecting to see you until tomorrow
morning.
Lexi: Whatever, now please tell me Rik's home.
Phyllis: No. I haven't seen him since he left with you earlier this
evening.

Lisa:
Paul, we need to talk.
Paul: Okay, what about?
Lisa: I think you need to put down that book.
Paul: Why?
Lisa: Because it's finally time we talked about the night Jackie killed
her own son, Rob.

Lexi:
What do you mean he's not here?
Phyllis: Rik is not in the building, he is elsewhere.
Lexi: I thought he'd just come home, now I find out he's wandered
elsewhere.
Phyllis: A good girlfriend should always know where her boyfriend is.
Lexi: Don't you blame me, this is all your fault.
Phyllis: My fault? My fault that your fiancé has gone missing?
Lexi: Don't pretend you're innocent. You obviously did something tonight,
you're probably up to your old tricks again.
Phyllis: Old tricks? Lexi, my dear, you've lost me.
Lexi: Shut it you old scheming hag. My Rik's out there doing God only
knows what thanks to you. Now if you don't help me find him you'll be outta this
house faster than you can think up a criticism of me.
